If you suffer from a wheat or gluten allergy, then you know how hard it can be to find foods that are gluten-free. The vast majority of breads and baked goods are off limits. Additionally, nearly every food on the grocery store market may contain gluten somewhere hidden in the ingredients.

If you are following a gluten-free diet or try to avoid wheat, it is very important that you learn what foods are safe to eat. There are some business card sized notes that are handy reminders of what grains contain gluten and which do not. There are also books on the market that list thousands of gluten-free products that can be found at grocery stores across the country.

Meeting with a nutritionist or dietitian can also be helpful. It is important to learn what foods are safe to eat and to make sure that you are eating a healthy, balanced diet. It can seem overwhelming at first, but the counseling of a nutritionist or dietitian can help to broaden the variety of foods that you can eat.

There are local celiac support groups that meat across the country too. These are a great place to meet up with other people who have similar dietary restrictions. At the meetings it is common for local businesses or national brands to mail in food samples so that the support group members can try some gluten-free foods before buying them without knowing how they taste. People also share difficulties that they are going through and people really help to support each other.

Checking the many legitimate gluten-free forums and websites can also be helpful for educating those with gluten-free diets. In the forums people share what gluten-free foods they like. People also will share what foods appear to be gluten-free but may be cross contaminated or may cause allergic reactions.

So if you are gluten-free, it is not the end of the world. There are plenty of delicious foods on the market that you can eat. It's also important to educate yourself on what foods are safe to eat and hopefully the above recommendations will help you along your way to a rich diet and a healthy life.
