Gout can be the most painful arthritis you can experience and of course, you can learn how to prevent gout attacks. If you had gout attack before and it remained untreated, it can recur many times in the future and may cause more damage to your tendons and joints.

Gout happens when there are high levels of uric acid in the blood that may lead them to form crystals in the joints causing the pain and the swelling. You may not even be aware that you have been accumulating too much uric acid in the blood until you develop gout but you have to find ways to learn how to prevent gout as it can recur in the future.

For sure, you would not want to be dealing again with the intense pain and the swelling of your joints, which are the most common symptoms of gout. Most often, the pain of gout can also last from a number of days to weeks, and for sure, you also don't want to be burdened yourself with the inconvenience of this condition.

If you want to learn how to prevent gout, one of the best ways to do it is to have a change in diet. Switching to a healthier diet of fresh fruits and vegetables especially those rich in vitamin C will help a lot in preventing gout. Opt for low-fat dairy products to help you reduce your risks for gout as well.

It is also important to keep in mind that there are foods that are high in purines and these foods can increase the levels of uric acid in your blood and increase your risk of gout attack. If you want to learn how to prevent gout, you may want to avoid these foods such as dried legumes and mushrooms. Also avoid fishes such as sardines, mackerel, herring and anchovies. Organ meats like liver and kidney are also rich in purines, thus, you may want to avoid them too.

Take cherry juice regularly or eat strawberries. These two are said to help you get relief from gout and avoid gout attacks as well.

Avoid alcohol as well if you want to be free from gout. Alcohol can block or limit the excretion of uric acid, thus may contribute a lot to more and more uric acid in your blood. Alcohol consumption plus intake of foods that are high in purines can indeed increase your risk of getting gout, so you may want to try to avoid them before you will end up bearing the pain of a recurring gout attack. Instead of alcohol, drink plenty of water everyday to help dilute and wash away uric acid in your body.

If you are overweight, you may want to lose weight too. Gout affects more men and most often, those who are overweight have higher risks in developing gout. However, you have to lose weight the healthy way as well.

Get plenty of rest and learn techniques to manage stress in your life as well. Stress is a major culprit in the many health problems that we commonly experience and learning to manage stress can be one of the first steps to help you on how to prevent gout.
