One of the subject at hand was facials, I am not making this up, two of the treatments they were highlighting that morning were 24 carrot gold and bird poop from some exotic bird found in Asia facials. All for the hope of appearing younger. I'm no spring chicken, I turned 47 over the weekend and see myself aging as each days goes by, but really, bird poop? I don't think so.
So, what would I do and what would I pay to look younger. Our daughter is getting married in February, I will see friends and family I haven't in years. I really don't want their comments, as they walk away with each other, to be about how I have aged. I know this is self absorbed as people as people are really coming to see the bride and groom and not me, but face it, we all worry about these things, especially as the mother-of-the bride.
I have seen procedures ranging from tummy tucks to cosmetic dentistry and in light of the fact that we don't have endless money and I avoid pain at all cost anyway, I have been thinking about maybe a little botox, a chemical peels, and teeth whitening if the price is right.
We life in the Chicago area, so I think my first stop will be to a local Chicago dentist to get my teeth whitened, that seems like a safe and painless way to begin. Next stop possibly to get a facial, not gold, or bird poop but cucumbers or what ever they use at spa's these days. Maybe I should just go on-line and find my own recipe and make myself up a batch. Botox, I don't know, that one still makes me a little bit nervous and no one admits to doing it, so who do you ask?
Why do we want to look younger anyway? What is wrong with aging and being proud of the fact that we have learned wisdom and have lived a good life filled with experience and adventure. Most of my wrinkles are due to the fact I have spent my life outdoors, riding, hiking and running. The lines on my face are my proof of living, of loving, of worrying, and of playing. Should we rise in rebellion against all the advertisers that tell us only youthfulness is accepted and desirable? Should we just age gracefully? A dilemma I struggle with daily. The fountain of youth or just an overpriced mirage?
