For some people it's hospital food, but they just don't understand what its appeal is. And there's certainly a lot going for it. When asked "why is oatmeal good for you," the answers come easily and plentifully.

One major reason for why is oatmeal good for you is because it lowers cholesterol. It is full of soluble fibers that attach themselves to bile which are responsible for absorbing fat and cholesterol in the body. When there is less bile, the less fat and less cholesterol are absorbed. The liver then produces bile out of the accumulated cholesterol in the body in order to make up for the decreased amount that had been absorbed, and thus lessening the cholesterol level even more. The lower the level of cholesterol, the lower one's chances are of heart disease.

Aside from decreasing the cholesterol count, oatmeal is also good for fighting another big C-word: Cancer. This is because they possess a form of the Cancer-fighting Phytochemical known as Phytic Acid, which binds itself to and then eliminates specific minerals that are believed to be the reason for free radical production of Cancer cells, particularly in the colon.

Being a low-fat complex carbohydrate food, oatmeal is also helpful in controlling one's weight. It has a low glycemic index, which makes it very slow to convert into a simple sugar. It causes a rise in the body's blood sugar, which makes it an ideal food for diabetics, as well. Low in sodium, oatmeal is also fortified with nutrients such as Vitamin A; B-vitamins like Folate, which lessens the risk of heart disease; calcium; iron, and a whole-lot more.

Apart from the oft-cited health benefits, probably the most relatable rationale for why is oatmeal good for you is because, plain-and-simple, it's just great. Many will agree that it's pretty-darn delicious for health food, and eating it plain is just the beginning of how good it can really be. The wondrous thing about oatmeal is how versatile and adaptable it can be. There are a number of ways it can be served: topped with fruit or nuts, mixed with milk or with sweet syrup, with cereal, and even with yogurt. It is typically served hot, but one may choose to eat it cold if that's what they fancy. It can even be used to make pancakes, muffins, and especially cookies. There are just so many applications that this amazing foodstuff can be adapted to.

There are a variety of reasons for why is oatmeal good for you. That it is good for one's health cannot be denied. High in fiber and low in fat, it keeps our heart pumping and strengthens our resistance to illnesses. It is a healthy breakfast that sustains our energy all throughout the day. And just as important, we just enjoy the many delicious ways it can be served.
