Obesity has become a serious health problem in our society. The health problems are both serious physically and financially. Lap Band Surgery is one of the most popular weight loss procedures to treat obesity. It is a proven method of losing weight and keeping it off. After lap band procedure, the size of the stomach will be changed as it will be much smaller. For this reason, one has to follow a strict diet that is healthy and the right consistency. In the weeks and months after the surgery, there are certain foods one will not be able to eat as it can cause such problems as regurgitation and damaging the lap band so that it will have to be removed or repositioned which will cause further expense.

After the lap band surgery there are a number of foods that must be avoided. Such foods that should not be eaten as bread, bread, fibrous foods such as pineapple and asparagus, skins of such fruits and vegetables as tomatoes, potatoes, carrots, apples, and grapes. Dry and solid meats and solid foods in general should be avoided.

Patients recovering from lap band surgery should also avoid beverages that are high in sugar and caffeinated, as well as carbonated beverages. Such beverages can include beer, wine, carbonated water, soda, and diet soda. These beverages are high in calories and you are trying to reduce calories at this time. As well, carbonation can extend the stomach pouch and cause distention below the band. Patients will experience discomfort and will feel bloated and full. In some situations, the gas bubbles caused by carbonated drinks can be painful and even severe. Fried foods can result in digestive problems and should be avoided. Foods that are rich in carbohydrates empty in nutrients can cause serious problems for those recovering from lap band surgery.

Tough, thick, and dry meats such as steak, pork chops, and hamburger, will cause many patients to develop digestive problems. Vegetables high in fiber or starch can also result in digestive upset, and should be avoided or in eaten in small pieces and amounts when you are ready to start eating harder foods. As well, spicy foods such as curried meals will cause digestive problems and should not be eaten.

After one has lap band surgery, their digestive system has changed so they cannot return to their normal eating habits. The stomach will be smaller and certain amounts of foods have to be consumed with care. As well, there will be certain amounts of nutrients such as protein will have to be consumed as one recovers. It is important to drink lots of water to stay hydrated and ensure accurate flushing of the pouch.

Having an uncomplicated recovery period is essential to lap band surgery success. During recovery from lap band surgery, patients will begin with a liquid diet and work their way to softer foods, and then to more solid foods. It is important to eat the right healthy foods at the right time during recovery.
