There are a number of types of contacts that a person can use if the wish to wear dailies contact lenses. Each of the major manufacturers of lenses makes at least one brand of daily lenses. Possibly the less well know dailies are the ones made by Coopervision of which there are two. They are Proclear 1 Day and Biomedics 1 Day and they cost around 12 pounds and 13 pounds respectively from online retailers for 30. Astigmatism sufferers however would only be able to find astigmatism lenses for the Biomedics one day lens.

Soflens Daily is a dailies contact by the manufacturer Bausch & Lomb. Soflens Daily disposable is a relatively recent replacement of Soflens 1 Day a slightly older but switchable version of the same lens. The Soflens Daily is slightly cheaper than the Coopervision lenses at around 11 pounds online and also provides contacts for astigmatism sufferers.

Probably the two most popular brands of dailies contact lenses however are the 1 Day Acuvue lenses and the Focus Dailies. The 1 Day Acuvue contacts can be found online for around 16 pounds and the Focus Dailies lenses can be found for around the same price as the Bausch and Lomb. These lenses however, unlike their competitors, have 'upgrades' available to silicon hydrogel lenses. Silicon hydrogel are allegedly more comfortable than other lenses, though there is some debate about this. These lenses have been released under the brand names Tru eye and Aqua respectively. They both have a 30-50% mark up in price on their predecessors.

A measure of the benefit of the comfort of all these various contacts might be that of Oxygen transmissibility. Focus Dailies and 1 Day Acuvue have 26 and 28 Dk measurements compared to Acuvue Tru eye having a Dk measurement of 100. Though the number hasn't been published, it can be assumed to be similarly high for Dailies Aqua. This would be a similar difference in the amount of oxygen getting to the eye as the difference of having eyes open or closed.

Despite this, dailies contacts without silicon hydrogel are holding their popularity. So it is possible that this is not the only factor determining comfort. It is also possible that the extra cost makes it prohibitively expensive. 1 Day Acuvue Tru eye for example could cost 420 pounds for a year's worth of lenses even with prices online. People who wear daily disposable contacts therefore have a wide range of contacts to choose from and numerous factors to take into account when deciding what to wear, not least their opticians advice.
