It can be an expensive business correcting eyesight. Paying for eye tests and then a new pair of glasses in one payment costs more than is rarely budgeted for, sometimes as much as putting a car through a full service! That is why some people are turning to discount contacts, as it offers a convenient solution for improving eye sight as well as offering an easier way to budget. This article will inform you of how you can switch from glasses to contact lenses to save money.

Discount contacts are available for all types of prescriptions from a wide range of manufacturers. Lenses are not only available from high street opticians either, they can be bought online and delivered to a local optician, and some companies deliver to personal addresses. To make the switch initially from glasses to contacts, speak to your own optician about the types of lenses available and the ones that are suitable for your own type of sight problem. Lenses come in many different shapes and firmness, and some have a special coating for sensitive eyes. As well as the physical differences between lenses, they are also manufactured to be worn for different amounts of time.

Discount lenses can be bought as daily disposables, which must be removed each night and thrown away, to be replaced by a fresh pair the following morning. Two weekly disposables, which can be removed and then reused the following day; but must be replaced with fresh ones after a fortnight. Monthly disposables are also available, which work the same as the previous two, but as the name suggests, should be replaced after a month. Extended wear lenses on the other hand can last for up to ten years, although this type is becoming less popular. Another type of lens is a Toric lens, which is used to correct astigmatism, which can be purchased as extended wear or as disposables.

Once you have a clearer idea of the type of discount contacts you are after, make a note of your prescription. There are three or five measurements that you will need to know, depending on your eyesight, to be able to fill out the necessary information online, which is where the best deals are. Regular contacts need to be made using measurements taken for power, base curve and diameter; but if you suffer from astigmatism you'll need to know cylinder and axis measurements too.
