There are many reasons why you should want to stop smoking, not just for the initial benefits to your health. Smoking can be damaging for your family, is damaging to your looks and will also dent your bank account. Here in this article we shall look at some of the vanity reasons you should stop smoking, so you are motivated to lead a happier and healthier life.

As an ex-smoker I understand that if anyone starts preaching to you about the health dangers of smoking it sometimes does not quite sink in fully. Although you should stop smoking for your health primarily, it was the vanity issues that motivated me to stop. It does not really matter why you choose to stop, only that you want to.

Smoking ages the skin faster than sun damage, apart from all of the obvious health risks if you do not want to look older than you are then you need to stop smoking. Smokers usually also have yellow finger tips, yellow teeth and will smell of cigarettes-which to other people in incredibly unattractive. These were the reasons that managed to make me want to give up smoking, the thought that other people would think that I smelt of old smoke and that it would age me quickly.

Smoking can add a huge ten to twenty years on your natural age, so if you are thirty and smoking you are going to look like a forty year old. Smoking affects the skin in many ways, what triggers it is the free radicals that form in your body when you are exposed to cigarette smoke. Free radicals are unstable molecules that potentially cause disease and damage to cell DNA. These cells in your body behave erratically which set off many responses from your body one of which is aging.

Smoking restricts blood flow through to the capillaries which prevents both oxygen and nutrients reaching the skin. It also produces enzyme which breaks down the collagen in the skin, collagen is vital for the skin's elasticity. Aging naturally causes for your levels of collagen to drop, but smoking rapidly speeds this up. If you don't want to look old before your time then you need to stop smoking, the classic 'smoker's face' will have heavily wrinkled skin around the mouth and eyes from drawing on the cigarette and squinting in the smoke.

Honestly, if there is no other reason to motivate you to stub out your cigarettes then make it your looks, nobody wants to look older than they really are with stained smokers skin. The benefits are not only looking younger for longer but probably living longer too.
