It is common to see toddlers who are out of control, rude, or just ill mannered. Toddlers may have all kinds of discipline problems. They may be unruly, whiny, overly demanding, sassy, or stubborn. No matter what their problem is, every time you come across such a child, you can't help but shudder at the thought of having such a child in your home. In fact, most parents are sure that they will never allow their children to behave in a manner that is anything less than perfect. However, for most parents, their children's behavior takes them completely by surprise.
For a lot of parents, finding themselves at the receiving end of such behavior from their own children can be very surprising and often heartbreaking. You may not even be able to figure out what to do. You may feel that you are alone, but the truth is that almost every parent finds themselves in a tight spot at one time or another when it comes to disciplining their child.
Children may pose discipline challenges anytime in their life and it is tough to figure out how to handle them. However, if they are disciplined correctly right from a young age, the likelihood of repeating instances of indiscipline becomes less.
Discipline issues often pose a serious dilemma to the parents. This is because discipline means losing brownie points with your child over certain issues. You don't want to be controlling your child's life but on the other hand, you don't want to be overly permissive. Either way, you need to get comfortable with the idea of disciplining as a necessary evil and also make your child comfortable to the idea of discipline at the same time.
The way to approach the discipline issue is to set the ground rules as soon as possible. Here's how:
* The first thing to do is to set the idea of the family as a unit firmly into your child's mind. Everybody should contribute to the family chores on a daily basis. This way, you will encourage a deeper bonding and a greater willingness on the part of the child to contribute and be responsible.
* A lot of families face problems regarding disrespect. It is important to remember that young children learn by imitation. If you do not respect your child, your child will not respect you. If your child is trying to convey something, it is a good idea to leave what you are doing and listen intently, rather than scream at your child to be quite.
* Be consistent in your behavior towards your child otherwise there is a chance that your child may get confused with your behavior and become non responsive.
