Boils are abscesses of the skin which are caused by bacterial infection. These eruptions commonly form around the hair follicles. Your body's immune response to this infection is an inflamed area, typically red in color and very sensitive to the touch. Boils are filled with pus. Pus is formed when your body sends white blood cells to attack the bacterial infection under your skin. When a large amount of pus develops, you get a painful, swollen formation- or a boil.

The usual culprit is the spherical bacterium known to the medical community as staphylococcus aureus, or staph as we know it. Poor hygienic habits can attribute to the development of boils. More often, however, boils are caused by stress, allergies, poor diet, excessive sweating, diseases like diabetes and illness.

Naturally if you have one, you know how painful, pesky and unattractive it is, and want to know how to get rid of a boil. Sometimes these skin conditions disappear on their own within a few days, but many times they stick around for a while. The bad news is that the longer they are allowed to remain in your skin, the greater chance you have of severe infection and sickness. The good news is that there are ways to rid your skin of boils before this occurs. You can go to your doctor to drain the pus out of it, use a medical treatment to eliminate it, try a home remedy or purchase a natural healing agent.

Some would tell you that the best way how to get rid of a boil would be to go to a doctor for medical treatment or to have it drained. While this is effective, antibiotics can weaken your immune system in the long run and should be avoided unless absolutely necessary. The other downside to this method is cost- it can be very pricey when you consider the doctor visit and any prescription medications you are given.

Trying a home remedy can be a good way how to get rid of a boil, too, but one must be careful if opting for this route. You can make a small incision or prick the top of the boil to ease the pressure, but this can aid in the spreading of the infection and cause additional boils to form. Instead, heating pads and warm soaks are recommended to help relieve the pain.

The best way how to get rid of a boil would be to find a natural treatment that you can ingest or apply directly to your skin. Some of these treatments have organic ingredients with antiseptic and antibacterial properties that cause no side effects to your system. These topical and digestible treatments do not involve breaking the boil, so you won't spread the infection to other areas of your skin. Even better, they can help prevent more boils in the future.
