There are many common acne myths which are totally unfounded. The first common pimple myth is that zits is caused by what we eat. Scientists have done extensive studies on this common acne myth and have found no proof whatsoever that our diets cause pimples. Although foods that are high in fat are not good for our bodies they do not cause zits.

Another common pimple myth is that acne is caused by not getting enough exposure to the sun. Long time exposure to the sun will actually cause your pores to shed dead skins cells more quickly. This may cause the pores to become clogged which can cause a pimple. Too much exposure to the sun actually damages the skin.

Acne is not a result of dirty skin, although washing your face and keeping it clean will help keep pores open. It is a common acne myth that poor hygiene is the sole cause of pimples or zits. Many people think that a blackhead is dirt clogging the pore but this is untrue. Blackheads are caused by dead skin. Over washing of the skin may actually cause zits to become worse because it harms the skins surface. Gently washing the face least twice a day is normally recommended to keep the skin clean. Always wash your face before applying medications.

One of the most common acne myths is that pimples are caused by stress. Since most human beings deal with quite a lot of stress in their daily lives it is simply untrue that stress causes pimples. The common myth that acne is untreatable is untrue. There are many treatments currently available that will help rid the skin of acne and also help keep it from recurring. Seeing a dermatologist for severe acne is the best way to get the proper treatment for severe pimple problems.

Most people are under the impression that only teenagers have zits. This is a very common myth that is untrue. It can and does affect people of all ages. Cases of adult acne may not occur quite as often as it does in teens but there are many adults that seek treatment for acne.
