Be prepared for the admissions process to take at least a year when applying to medical school. Energy, time and preparation are needed on your part. The process is similar to this: AMCAS application sent in June, secondary's finished through summer and fall; fall and winter for the interview; admittance somewhere around October to March. That is a total of about eleven to twelve months for the process.

These schools look for those who are smart and have motivation. Medical schools normally accept about half of those who apply. About ninety-six percent of them successfully acquire the M. D. Degree.

Have all the necessary requirements complete. Schools will vary according to what they want you to have before admitting you. Humanities, calculus or biochemistry courses may be needed. Passing the MCAT is required before your application will be considered complete. Submitting your application before you take the MCAT can be done but until the scores arrive, the application is not considered finished.

The ideal situation would be to have all the prerequisites complete before applying. During the year before you apply, take the MCAT sometime in April.

The application that is filled out for medical school is known as the AMCAS. It is similar to applications for undergraduate admissions. June is when the AMCAS application is will begin to be accepted.

After selecting the school that you want to attend on the application, a second application will probably be sent to you. This secondary application is a way for the schools to ask questions that pertain to that particular school.

In order to be accepted by the school, an interview at that school must be done. It is a way for the school to determine if the person represented on paper is the person you really are. It is also used to see if you really want to attend that school. Interviews normally start in September and end in March.

The admissions decisions span the entire time of the interview session. It is possible to know as early as October if you are accepted or not. If a rolling admission cycle is not used, then the decisions will be made at one time and announced in March. You will only gain admission if you receive an invitation to interview and do good presenting yourself.

As stated previously the admissions process for medical school is rather lengthy and can last eleven months. This is from the time you take the MCAT to the decision on being admitted.
