Sometimes, a simple face washing routine, over-the-counter topical medications, or acne face washes will not take care of a struggle with acne. In these cases, acne can be very overwhelming and frustrating. Obviously, no one wants to have bad skin covered with unsightly bumps and red marks. When this type of acne struggle occurs, one may automatically resort to visiting a dermatologist and getting the first prescription medication available. However, before you do that, consider some natural ways of treating acne.

There are many natural solutions for the treatment of acne, but perhaps one of those important might be that of your diet. What you eat and how much you eat affects your overall health but can directly display itself in your skin. Diet doesn't always impact the skin, because there are many people in the world who can eat as much junk food as they want and never see a pimple. But sometimes, diet can be the key to treating acne.

If you suffer from acne and have tried many other solutions without a cure, you may want to assess your diet. First, are you eating the right amount? Both a person who eats too little and too much may notice increasing acne. You need to find a healthy weight and a healthy, daily number of calories. You can visit a nutritionist for this one or do your own studies on what is healthy. Once you've determined this, try to fill up your daily alloted calories with a good variety of healthy foods including whole grains, calcium-rich foods, healthy fats, fruits, and vegetables. Don't fill up all your calories with empty carbs, processed foods, sugars, sweets, and junk food, for this may be the direct link to your acne.

As you are adapting your diet to a more skin-healthy routine, you may notice that some foods impact your face more than others. For some people, eating dairy products can cause more acne breakouts, but for others, it may be very helpful for healing of the skin. You might notice improvement when you eat sweet potatoes and spinach salads consistently, or it might just be better when you eat fewer simple carbs.

The key to using diet as a natural treatment for acne is to experiment with different eating habits and foods as well as vitamin supplements if necessary until you find something that works for you. It may take a bit of time and effort, but the results of treating your acne natural will be beneficial and probably for more than just your skin!
