Two way radios are very important today for emergencies; here in this article we shall briefly look at why they are so paramount within emergency situations. This equipment is probably overlooked a lot for importance, when in actual fact they are very important and one day, the communication that they provide may even save your own life.

Typically two way radios make many people think of their childhood, or of children that use them to play with. However the majority of people that use this invention are government agencies that use them to save lives, communication being a crucial element to many life-endangering situations. The Police, Fire Service and Ambulances all use two way radios to communicate with one another and although you may not have ever considered it before, this invention has probably saved many lives.

The two way radio enables instant communication between talk groups. An example of this would be that when the Police are using a certain frequency another officer could push a button on their hand held to make contact. This type of contact can be critical if an officer needs back up or medical help straight away. A mobile phone would take longer in this instance and could well cost the officer their life.

Ambulances also use this technology so they can report the condition of a patient to the hospital after they have picked them up. This way the hospital can either give instructions to the ambulance of how to treat the individual or be prepared for the patient before they arrive. More often than not this preparation could provide the patient with valuable time, especially if they have been involved in a very serious accident.

The walkie-talkie is also used to save lives within the fire service, a radio can allow for officers to radio for help whilst they are fighting a fire. This can allow for the colleagues of the fire fighter to be alerted and save anyone from a fire. Weather alert systems often also use two way radios to alert the public that there is bad weather on the way, if normal communication channels such as mobile phones and television are down then the radio is a perfect back up.

Even mothers with newborn babies benefit from this technology, as walkie-talkies can be placed in the baby's bedroom so that the mother can hear their child breathing and if they should cry then the mother can see to them. So despite being a rather modest invention, two way radios have proven more than useful in today's modern world.
