Chiropractic care has been around for a long time, in face Hippocrates said, "Get knowledge of the spine, for this is the requisite for many diseases." Herodotus, a contemporary of Hippocrates was known for curing diseases by fixing spinal abnormalities through specific exercises, but if the patients was too weak, Herodotus would adjust the patient's spine. Aristotle told Herodotus that, "he made old men young and thus prolonged their lives too greatly," Oddly enough this was his form of criticism.

The treatment of the spine was very rudimentary and not understood at this time, more that there was a connection between spinal health and overall health but not understanding the exact correlation or even how the spine worked.

Mr. D.D. Palmer was a magnetic healer who believed there was a correlation between the body and the spine. He was working in his office late one night when he tried to talk to the janitor who was also working late. The janitor ignored him and as a noisy fire engine passed, D.D. Palmer realized there was no reaction. He quickly deduced that janitor was deaf. After patient listening, he learned that the man had had normal hearing most of his life but one day as he was cleaning, stooped over, he heard a pop in his back and when he stood up, the deafness began.

D.D. Palmer examined his spine and noticed a vertebras wasn't in order. He finally convinced the man to let him put it back in place and when he was finished the man could hear. Palmer quickly began to see other patience for all kinds of conditions and found that realigning the spine could cure many maladies from stomach disorders to fevers.

He called his "hand treatments" chiro, meaning hand, and practic, meaning practice or operation. Thus began the study and practice of chiropractics. It took a long time for this alternative form of practice to be widely accepted.

Today, most people are familiar with the chiropractic profession and are grateful for its knowledge and skill. There are many practitioners across the country eager to help new patience from Fresno to Folsom chiropractors are anxiously engaged in generating good health.
