The inability to sleep is a debilitating condition that can affect the way you work and live your life. in fact, if you've had to constantly go through sleepless nights, you'd jump at sleep aids that promise the opportunity to enjoy a good night's sleep. There are in fact many sleep aids available in the market today. Many of them claim to be the best sleep aids. Some are over-the-counter drugs while others are prescription medication. Others, on the other hand, are formulated from herb and other natural ingredients.

But do these sleep aids really work? If you have tried searching the Internet for information on sleeping aids, you may have noticed that the information on the side effects and their efficacy are conflicting. This is why it is important that anyone who is considering trying them should know everything there is to find out before making the decision.

Generally speaking, sleep aids work only as temporary solutions. For those who are suffering from chronic insomnia, long-term treatment primarily requires creating an environment that is conducive to deep sleep, as well as the ability to relax, and other behavioral methods that do not require medication. But if what you need is a quick solution to your insomnia, you may want to check out the advantages and disadvantages of the best sleep aids.

First, there are sleeping pills. As mentioned, there are sleeping pills that can be bought over the counter and those that need prescription. Both may give you a good night's sleep but they are not advisable for long-term use because prolonged use can actually do more harm than good. Some of the side effects or consequences that you need to watch out for include drug tolerance and dependence. It may also cause you to experience withdrawal symptoms like excessive sweating, chills and nausea when you stop taking the medication. There may also be other contraindication when the sleeping pill is taken with other drugs. Worse, in some cases, the insomnia heightens when you stop taking the pill.

Many patients who are afraid of the side effects of sleeping pills believe that natural remedies are the best sleep aids. After all, they promise the same effect-a cure for insomnia-without the side effects. Some of these natural remedies include lemon balm and chamomile tea, taken before going to sleep. While these formulations may be harmless, the consequences may be more grave because there is no way to track down the dosage that you are getting. In addition, natural remedies may also be contraindicated with other medications that you are taking.

If you feel that sleeping pills or natural remedies are not for you, you can also try alternative sleep aids. In most cases, all it takes to get a good night's sleep is to change your sleeping environment and your bedtime habits. Make sure that you are relaxed when you set out to sleep. Everything from your bed, to your pillow, to the food you eat before going to bed should promote relaxation. Aside from the fact that there are no side effects to these alternatives, you are also assured that the benefits are long-term.
Author Resource:- Because situations vary from person to person, the best sleep aid for you may not be the best one for someone else you know.

If you have recently decided to use a sleep aid to help you get more restful sleep, you need to do some research before choosing which one to buy.
