Gastritis is the inflammation of the lining of the stomach, as a result of infection. The use of cortisones, viral infections, and Helicobacter pylori infection, the use of aspirin, stress and excess usage of non steroidal inflammatory drugs are the other contributing factors for gastritis.

Gastritis Symptoms And Effective Cures

Typical symptoms of gastritis include nausea, diarrhea, abdominal cramps, fever, poor appetite, general weakness and vomiting. Certain other causes are chronic bile reflux, autoimmune disorders and anemia. Black stools, as a result of bleeding, which is also referred to as hematuria is common. Blood in the vomit or malena is yet another common symptom of severe gastritis. Poor eating patterns, improper lifestyle and unhealthy dietary habits result in the erosion of the intestinal lining. Gastritis is also common as a result of severe infection, surgery, trauma and burns. Eleven important dietary modifications for gastritis include:

1. Avoid heavy meals. Opt for smaller meals at frequent intervals. But, take care not to eat too often, so as to increase the secretion of acids.
2. Decrease the salt in your diet, as it affects the lining of the intestine, thus increasing the vulnerability to Helicobacter pylori infection.
3. Caffeinated beverages, such as tea, colas, coffee, chocolate and cocoa are not recommended. Green and black tea are a complete 'no-no'.
4. All foods that act as irritants such as spicy foods with chilies, black and red pepper, chili powder, hot pepper and so on are avoided.
5. High fiber foods such as fruits, whole grains, veggies, pulses and legumes are recommended.
6. Fruits, such as grapes, oranges, apples and watermelon prove useful.
7. Flatulence causing foods are not preferred, such as cabbage, radish, broccoli, onions, peas, dried beans and milk.
8. High fat and greasy foods increase the acid secretion and are therefore best avoided. About three servings of milk and dairy products are taken in the skimmed form.
9. Soft foods, which are easily digestible, are recommended. Avoid seasonings such as cinnamon, cloves, onion and garlic. Soft foods such as rice gruel or porridge, and custard are helpful.
10. Esophageal pain and heartburn are seen as a result of consumption of peppermint, tomatoes, citrus juice and tomato juice.
11. Lifestyle modifications include abstinence from alcoholic beverages and smoking. Cigarette smoking affects the pace of wound healing.

A brisk walk daily, along with breathing exercise proves beneficial in curbing the acid secretion. Avoid all kinds of stress, by practice of yoga and other alternate therapies.
