If we think about aromatherapy, relaxation often comes in mind. Indeed, one of the main uses of aromatherapy is relaxation, but of course, aside from that, we can find so many things that nature's essential oils can be used.

Before exploring its benefits further, it is important to take note that aromatherapy is a practice that uses essential oils from plants as natural medicine, which can heal and promote our physical, emotional and psychological well-being.

Usually, these essential oils are mixed together and may have specific scents best for a specific purpose. You may be familiar with some of the aromatherapy oils being sold in the market or in some scented candles you can popularly find around, but it helps to know which of these oils to use and find out the many uses of aromatherapy in general.

Aromatherapy can be used by smelling it or by diluting it and applying it during massage. However, in using these essential oils, it is important to keep in mind that some plants in which these essential oils were gathered from can cause allergic reactions when in contact with skin, especially if you are prone to allergies, thus, it is important to follow instructions very well before attempting to use it at home.

Here are a few of the many uses of aromatherapy that you may want to know more about.

Aromatherapy is widely used for relaxation or calming the body. The aromatherapy oil Lavender for example is good for relaxation and is even useful in people with insomnia. It can also be used in massages and in baths and used as well in bites and burns.

Essential oil from orange also gives a calming effect and can be used together with lavender for relaxation and for uplifting your mood.

Of course, aside from giving you a soothing and calming environment, aromatherapy oils, and aromatherapy in general, have been used also in relieving the symptoms of many disorders and discomfort. Most of the essential oils used in aromatherapy also have antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral properties which can help a lot in dealing with some minor discomforts and disorders of the body like dandruff, athlete's foot, bites, colds and congestion of the sinus.

Eucalyptus for instance can help a lot in dealing with colds and sinus congestion. Peppermint is used to reduce headache and nausea. Tea tree also has a lot of uses as it is antifungal, antibacterial and fights yeast infection as well.

Aside from the medical uses of aromatherapy, it is also popularly used as antidepressant and is used also in improving circulation as well. Rosemary for instance is also used in relieving pain.

Indeed, aromatherapy can be useful in many ways in improving your well-being - in body, in mind and in spirit. However, before trying to experiment on them, learn everything you can about aromatherapy as there are also some safety measures that you have to keep in mind in using these oils.
