Neurological disorders are among the most difficult disease for patients and their loved ones to deal with, as the root of what makes an individual, their mind, is attacked by disease or affected by injury.

Scientists have now discovered a new stem cell therapy for Parkinson's disease and Huntington's disease initially, that could have implications for neurological disorders as wide ranging as Alzheimer's, dementia, epilepsy and stem cell therapy for stroke. Adult stem cell cures via the new source, dental pulp, could be personalized and easily available, as they can be harvested during simple visits to the dentist. We look at the details and implications of this stem cell research.

The research was performed at Yerkes National Primate Research Center, and the initial discovery of the possibility for these new adult stem cell cures actually came from a monkey. The dental pulp cells from primates were seen to stimulate the generation and growth of several different types of brain cells.

The implications of this potential human adult stem cell therapy could reach as far as multiple sclerosis, as well as some of the most debilitating neurological disorders like Parkinson's and Huntingtons.

The dental pulp is tissue in the center of a tooth, made up of soft tissue and other living cells, surrounded by hard bone. Its primary function is to form dentin, but researchers recently took the dental pulp of a rhesus macaque, and implanted it into the hippocampuses of mice, where the pulp stimulated the growth of new neural cells.

This stem cell therapy discovery is particularly important because adult stem cell cures and stem cell success often depends on the suitability or compatibility of donor tissue. Cell rejection is a constant battle in transplant medicine, and being able to bank one's own human adult stem cells, with a simple visit to the dentist, could ensure that your later years remain unblemished, with simple stem cell therapy for Parkinson's, stem cell therapy for stroke, and cell therapy for other neurological conditions.

The groundwork for this discovery was laid several years ago, when scientists first discovered that the dental pulp inside the baby teeth that people begin losing at around age 6, was a rich source of stem cells which remained alive inside the tooth for a short time. However, Thailand stem cell therapy with cells harvested from baby teeth may be much more effective, or effective for different conditions, than the cells harvested from adult dental pulp. They may also be logistically easier to use in Thailand stem cell therapy than human adult stem cells from permanent teeth. "They [the deciduous tooth pulp cells] exhibited an ability to grow much faster and doubled their populations in culture at a greater rate, suggesting SHED may be in a more immature state than adult stem cells", said one of the researchers that helped with the initial work.
