Are you concerned about getting carpal tunnel problems?

Are you suspicious that you may already have Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?

Muscles are almost always involved when you have pain, numbness or tingling in your hands, wrists and arms.

Muscles are the culprit and they need to be dealt with appropriately. That doesn't mean punish them. It means that you must take care of your muscles--love them and support them and they will do the same for you.

Here are seven simple tips that will help you prevent, reduce and eliminate Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.

1. Strengthen your posterior arms (the back side of your upper arms.) Usually the front sides of your arms are held in bent, shortened positions for long periods. Your goal is to open up (relax or stretch) the short muscles in the front of your body. You want to create muscular balance in your arms.

2. Get a strong back. A strong back side will enable you to have good posture. Having strong back muscles will hold your shoulders back and prevent a whole lot of other aches and pain, too.

3. Do lots of comfortable stretches. Do them in the opposite direction of the way you usually work or play. Do them in bed, at work, and when you rest. You don't want to "over-stretch" but you do want your muscles to get the idea, so stretch several times each day.

4. Listen to the signals your body gives you. If you feel tingling, numbness or pain, pay attention to when, where and why you get them. Sometimes stopping or altering a single movement that you do can make a huge difference.

5. Take a tai chi, yoga or stretching class. Do something that will open up the muscles in the front of your body and that will cause you to become stronger and more in muscular balance. Getting a good therapeutic massage can also be a great help.

6. Improve your nutrition and water intake. Bodies need lots of vitamins and minerals to function well. So, eat a healthy diet. Eat colorful foods, lots of fruit and veggies. And, it's usually a good idea to take a really good vitamin and mineral supplement, especially one with Vitamin B6. Muscles work best when they are well-hydrated, so drink plenty of water.

7. Take frequent breaks if you have to work in fixed positions for long periods of time. Taking lots of little breaks is better than taking just one long break. Make your break a "movement break." Move your arms and hands in different positions than the ones you usually use. Move your arms up and back. Roll your shoulders up, back and down. Flap your "wings" like a great, graceful eagle.

You might wonder whether any or all of these simple tips will help you prevent or get rid of Carpal Tunnel symptoms.

The answer is Yes!

Muscles (which are "soft tissue) are probably responsible for about 90% of all pain. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is a "soft-tissue pain syndrome." A syndrome is a collection of symptoms.

Symptoms happen for a reason (or 2 or 3.) Muscles being "tight" or "out of balance" can cause symptoms.

If you take these steps to help your body, your symptoms will be fewer because your body will be happier.

And, that's a good thing!
