Most of us credit our initial access to the gym to friends, relatives and family. Somebody introduced as to this lifestyle and showed as not only the way in, but also where to sit, what to do, how to do it and even when. Somebody influenced our decision to follow up a body building lifestyle, impressed upon us its essence and luster. In most cases, champion body builders always attribute their love fro the gym and the professional game, to various external influences. Many of us started training at high school or college, just because it was the in-thing with our peers at that time.

As such, the very start of training accrues from influence, direct or otherwise, in almost all body builders. That is positive peer influence. And it doesn't stop when we start training; actually, it gets more intense during the program administration. You usually perfect your training and dieting through the influence of the experts or peers with whom you interact during the training program. You learn the moves and the ropes from peers.

Perhaps the most important role of positive peer influence is noted in the intermediate stages of bodybuilding. It's only positive if it leads to better, lasting gains in muscle mass, strength, wholesome character and good health. Some influence is totally negative, such as when a body builder picks up the use of anabolic steroids following peer influence. When one progresses in training, the intensity increases, the exercises become harder and the going tougher. Most body builder quit the program at this time.

But if you have training buddies and colleagues who encourage you and help you get along, it becomes easier and more bearable. The friends nudge you on when you are almost slipping into a plateau, they prompt you to progress to greater phases of growth by motivating your training and dieting. Friends, relatives and peers who commend your gains and encourage you to pursue even more gains are the ones who help keep you motivation up. They help you believe in the dream and the goals of training, even when the same goals seem a million miles away.

When you are almost missing out on a training session but your training body calls you and you decide not to let him or her down, you keep the program going. That is positive peer influence and it is key especially when morale is low and the training hard.

Many a times, we pursue a training goal, short term or long term, purely to compete with a colleague. For as long as such competition is kept in check to ensure that it does not inflict your body, then it is positive influence. It is however dangerous to compete with fellows whose genetic predisposition, muscle build and dieting programs differ with yours. You must at all times bear in mind what your body can or is ready to do, before venturing out to competitive intensity levels and exercises. At the end of the day, the peers should motivate you to keep on the optimal edges of maximal muscle growth.
