One of the things that always seem to be discussed among my friends is diets. There is the grapefruit diet, where you eat only grapefruit for a week that is supposed to help you lose weight because grapefruit might break down fat. There is the diet where you eat only a certain vegetable soup for a month because the soup will rehydrate your body, makes you feel full and is low in calorie.
The Atkins diet says you should only eat protein and vegetables, and is seen to be high in fat and salt. The 'heart healthy' diets eschew meat ,salt and fats, instead offering a vegetable and grain based diet. The Body-for-Life lifestyle combines an eating plan with balanced protein, carbohydrate and vegetable portions with a six day a week exercise plan alternating cardiovascular exercises with weight training and strengthening upper and lower body regions for twelve weeks.
There is the hcg diet now, with drops or shots, it must be prescribed by a doctor and should not be undertaken without examining the information available about hcg . The hcg diet is a certain amount of restricted fruits, vegetables, and proteins along with the hcg drops or shot that is administered daily. The dietary caloric intake is not to exceed a certain amount, have no fats and sugars and you are supposed to lose a pound a day.
All of these diets seem like a totally wrong way to look at health. The real way we should look at our health and beauty is not the amount we weigh, but the way we feel. Do you feel beautiful today when you look in the mirror? If you can only see flaws, what are they? If you have excessive fat, it is probably being caused by a buildup in your fat cells of toxins, causing them to become larger and larger. If you see blemishes on your face, it probably means your liver is overtaxed by toxins and a build up of sugar and fats and your body can't get rid of them except through your skin.
So, looking in the mirror and thinking you are too fat is the wrong way to approach your health. Try taking small steps to change your diet. Instead of eating a candy bar, try a piece of fruit. Drink more water and less sweetened beverages. Eat smaller portions and go for a walk when you get stressed instead of eating ice cream. Many small things add up to total weight loss and a healthier, happier you.
