There are a plethora of creams and lotions on the market that can be used to combat acne, but how much more effective are these expensive treatments when compared to the home remedies for acne that you can whip up in seconds, for one tenth of the cost?
There is no "cure all" for every one when it comes to fighting acne. Everybody's skin reacts differently, so treatments that might work for someone's next door neighbour, may not work for them. Finding the right treatment during these trying times will be a process of trial and error and there's no avoiding this. What may be able to avoided, is having to spend hundreds of dollars on treating the pimples on your face;
Here are some simple home remedies for acne:
* Wash affected areas twice daily with a salty water solution. This should help reduce oils in the skin without flaring any acne you have.
* Toothpaste - Wash the skin thoroughly and then apply toothpaste to the pimple before going to sleep. Apply a very small amount only, just enough to cover the head. If in doubt, start small and increase the dose each time. Toothpaste can burn or irritate the skin if too much is applied. Use the paste, not the gel products.
* Tea Tree Oil - Wipe tea tree oil on pimples two to three times per day for relief of inflammation. Tea tree oil has antibacterial properties and generally little to no side effects. It can also be added to warm water and rinsed over the affected area of the face for similar results.
* Aloe Vera - Another effective home remedy for acne relief is aloe vera. Whilst aloe vera does not fight the cause of acne, it will rapidly decrease signs of redness and swelling, reducing the appearance of pimples, especially with prolonged use. It can be applied through gels and lotions, or via aloe vera based soaps. Aloe soap should be lathered onto the face before being pat dried. Gels and lotions should be applied in much the same way, poured onto the swollen or inflamed area and rubbed into the skin, then patted dry.
* Honey - Raw honey has been famous for centuries for its antibacterial properties. The honey that is used for pimples should not be treated in any way. In other words, look for the raw, natural, unprocessed honey. Organic brands will usually be suitable for using on acne, as they are generally untreated with no additives. Applying the honey is straight forward; simply put a little bit on your finger and dab it onto the affected area. Leave for 10-15 minutes and then rinse off with lukewarm water.
Remember that no acne remedies work for everyone. It is recommended that you only try one of these home remedies for acne at a time, to make it easier to identify what does or doesn't work for your skin.
