Acne affects roughly ninety percent of the population at one point or another, which makes acne removal systems an important topic for many people, especially teenagers trying to work through their already challenging adolescent years. For those with acne scars, life can be particularly tough. Fortunately, we live in an age where many options exist for acne removal and the removal of markings and scars on the skin;

Dermabrasion - One of the more popular methods of acne removal is dermabrasion. During this process, the upper layers of the skin are literally sanded back using a machine called a dermabrader. This method is quite effective for overall smoothing of the skin, whilst removing any visible markings or scars the skin may have. Dermabrasion is not guaranteed to completely remove scars, though it will definitely lighten skin markings that it does not remove.

Chemical peels - Are another popular acne removal option. Peels work very similarly to dermabrasion, although the machine is replaced by acidic chemicals which are applied in moderation to remove the top layer of skin. Again, this gives the skin a smoother appearance, although is not guaranteed to be effective in completely removing acne scar. Many times it will remove the scar. At the very least the scar will be faded.

Both dermabrasion and chemical peels can also give the appearance of younger looking skin, which is an added bonus. The downside is the obvious side-effects that both procedures involve. Due to the removal of the epidermis (outer layers of skin), the skin will be left with considerable redness, stinging, dryness and general irritation. Both acne removal methods should be applied by a professional.

Fat injections - Another process of active acne removal is autologous fat injections. In this process, fat is removed from other parts of the body and reinjected into the affected skin. This is particularly effective where sunken scars are apparent. The fat injections fill depressions in the skin. Again, this is a radical acne removal method and the process should be as fat in the body will be taken again.

Collagen - Another method in the same mold is collagen injections, which are commonly used to smooth out wrinkles and scars. Collagen is a protein found in skin, although as a person ages their collagen levels naturally decrease, causing sagging and wrinkles. It can be injected back into areas of skin to plump up and firm the structure of the skin cells, smoothing out lines and scars in the process. The injections can be expensive and must be repeated at regular intervals.

Skin Grafts - Another technique for the removal of severe acne marks, are skin grafts. This technique is generally not used, however in especially serious cases it may be considered.

If you're one of the many people affected by the lasting marks of acne, then one of the acne removal methods above may be for you.
