The number of people affected by allergies and asthma in our country is on the rise. Whether or not you are one of the people that experience the symptoms of allergies or asthma it is crucial that you rid your home of all potentially harmful allergens.

Taking the time to make your home allergy and asthma friendly will definitely pay off. Making sure the air in your home is clean and safe to breathe will not only enable your allergenic and asthmatic friends to enjoy your home, but it will decrease your risk of developing either of the conditions.

If you already have experienced or are experiencing the symptoms common to allergies and asthma there is no need to inform you the importance of this endeavor. Imagine breathing easier, coughing less and enjoying being home all that much more.

Allergens are usually harmless substances that your immune system treats as threats. Some of the most common allergens are pollens, dust mites, mold and pet dander.

Many allergens in the air go unnoticed, unless you are allergic to them. Throughout the average persons day he or she will inhale about two tablespoons of airborne particles.

If you are not sure as to whether you have a pollen allergy, figure out during which seasons you experience your symptoms. If you are only experiencing symptoms in the spring, early summer or autumn there is a high probability that you have an allergy to pollen.

These seasons are excellent indicators of such allergies because of what is happening in the environment during that time. During spring trees are pollinating, in the early summer grass and weeds are pollinating and in autumn weed allergens become very potent.

Having an allergy to pollen can interfere with your everyday activities. It is important to treat your house as your haven from the allergens.

First, keep your windows closed as much as you possibly can during the above mentioned seasons. Allowing the pollen to blow through a window will diminish any other efforts made in the home.

Keeping your home air conditioned will also greatly reduce the exposure to pollen. Washing your pets often to reduce the amount of pollen they bring in from outside will also help.

If you are accustomed to drying your bedding or clothing outdoors during the spring and summer months, you may want to change the way you dry. Allergens easily attach themselves to material and if your sheets and clothing are blowing in the wind, they are an easy target for allergens.

Keeping your yard pruned of weeds, before the weeds can pollinate and mowing the grass before it grows long enough to produce seed heads and pollen will decrease the amount of pollen around your home.

Keeping your air filtration system clean and functioning well will drastically decrease the amount of pollen that gets into your central air system. The levels of pollen will decrease if these measures are taken and in return your symptoms will diminish.

Dust mites are another very common allergenic plague in the United States. These microscopic bugs are cohabitating with the majority of households.

If you are experiencing itchy eyes, a runny nose or other common allergy symptoms that seem to get worse when you get in bed there is a high chance that dust mites are causing your discomfort. Taking measures to rid your home of as many of these pesky bugs as possible will help your symptoms dissipate.

Dust mites can live in your carpet. To exterminate the dust mites in your carpet you must have the carpet cleaned with a special treatment that inactivates the allergens that have accumulated in the carpet and kills dust mites.

Vacuuming your floor consistently can remove surface allergens from the carpet. If your vacuum is old it may be mal beneficial because of a leak.

Replacing your vacuum bag with a high filtration multi-layer bag and adding a vacuum exhaust will make your vacuum cleaner very effective. If at all possible, replace the carpet with hard flooring, eliminating all mites.

Your bed is a very common place for dust mites to multiply. By encasing your mattress and pillows in hypoallergenic cases and washing all bedding every two weeks in water that is at least 130 degrees you will drastically minimize the number of mites in your bed.

Dust mites and pollen often sneak their way into your home from outside. To reduce the occurrences of this problem, it is important to have a professional install an air purification system in your home.
