Fish is generally regarded as a healthy, in particular sushi recipes, because it is in the raw state and therefore is not cooked in a way that negates its healthy benefits. But what is it about fish that makes it so healthy? There is one main component in fish that makes it so healthy for humans: Omega-3 fatty Acids.

These acids are essential to the human diet because we don't synthesize them biologically. Thus, we must either consume the particular Omega-3 fatty acids that we need or their parent fatty acids that the body can convert into the fats we use. These can be found in any sushi recipes including kosher sushi. These fats are originally made by algae and are more an more prevalent as the fish move up the food chain.

It has been proved that these essentials for human health can raise the levels of high-density lipoproteins in the blood, commonly known as the good cholesterol, while lowering levels of the low-density lipoproteins. They have also been seen to improve endothelial (blood vessel wall) function, reduce platelet aggregability (blood clotting) and lower blood pressure. All this makes sushi recipes more and more desirable.

The human central nervous system consists mostly of DHA (Docosahexaenoic), a type of Omega-3 fatty acid. The central nervous system is in constant repair and replenish mode so a balanced diet with Omega-3 fatty acids can help maintain a well functioning nervous system. If that doesn't get you thinking about ordering some kosher sushi, what will?

These acids are great in helping the proper development of babies and therefore pregnant or lactating women are always encouraged to eat a diet rich with Omega-3's. Although pregnant women in western society are often suggested to stay away from raw fish, there are still supplements and a variety of cooked fish, sushi recipes available for consumption.

Finally, studies have shown that diets with a enough fatty acids are beneficial to those with type II diabetes because they help moderate blood sugar levels. These also may help in preventing Alzheimers disease. This is because consumption of these fatty acids have shown a 70% decrease of amyloid protein build up in the brain, the plaque considered the possible cause of the disease.

While fish and sushi recipes offer a myriad of other health benefits, Omega 3's are clearly the most significant. These fatty acids play a large role in human health and the easiest way for us to get them is from the consumption of fish. The way in which the fish is consumed can be a point of debate, however giving your body its necessary nutrients is not.
