Nobody likes wearing contact lenses for the first time. The thought of having something against your eye is far from pleasant. Then there's the question of which product you should choose. There are so many, you can sometimes feel disorientated. In this article, therefore, we're going to take you through the basics of choosing your first contact lenses and look at three of the leading contenders for first time options: Acuvue 2, Bausch & Lomb's Soflens and the Focus 1-2 week disposables.

First up is the Acuvue 2. These have been uniquely designed to provide the wearer maximum comfort and ease-of-use. These lenses are also ideal for first time wearers as they are comparatively easier to wear and maintain. More than fifty percent of Acuvue 2 users have reported better than 20/20 vision.

Meanwhile the Soflens 59 from Bausch & Lomb is made from protein resistant materials to maximise comfort and performance. It's a good option for daily wear on a monthly basis. Alternatively, for a cost effective option, you might want to look at the Focus 1-2 week disposables. They're easy to wear and provide the kind of comfort you'll be looking for.

As well as this there are other good options from Ciba Vision, while Wesley Jessen provides some colourful options for wild eyes. That might be something you want to look at further down the line though.

Whichever option you take - Acuvue 2, Bausch & Lomb Soflens or the Focus 1-2 week disposables, it's important to do your research.

Going online is a smart move, you may also want to do a little research before you click the "buy" button. It's probably a good idea to use one of the more recognized price comparison websites which crawl through the internet, do the math and give you some handy price comparisons. The downside: These websites only focus on the prices and tend to ignore service standards and customer reviews etc. But once you have the best and most competitive prices, simply check those retailers up on the many customer review sites.

Once you've done this you should have developed a good understanding of what's on offer and be able to choose the best product for your individual needs. From a personal point of view, the best overall option seems to be the Acuvue 2, but that's a personal opinion. Early on you might want to experiment and try different types of lenses until you find the one that suits you best.
