With the use of advanced technology Acuvue Trueye was supposed to sweep the market off its feet, but that is proving harder than they might have hoped. With high quality alternatives available from Bausch & Lomb, Ciba Vision and Coopervision, life is tough in this market. As any lens wearer will know, big hype doesn't mean the product can deliver.

Like most of the other advanced products out there Acuvue Trueye uses silicon hydrogel technology to make it possible for continuous wear without risk of infection or irritation. Manufacturers across the board believe they have cracked the code that will make contacts more accessible and effective than they have ever been before and they've all offered variations on how best to put it into action.

The Acuvue Trueeye uses something called. Narafilcon A. It sounds impressive, but don't get swept up by technical sounding the words. Instead take a step back and work out what it does. According to the manufacturers this material is special because it has its own internal smoothening and wetting mechanism by which it is capable of delivering the low amounts of friction.

It blocks out around 97 percent of harmful UV light and allows virtually natural levels of oxygen access to the eye. That's critical in allowing continuous wear without mal effects.

It all sounds rather good, but there is stiff competition out there. From Bausch & Lomb comes Purevision. These also make use of the latest silicon hydrogel materials to bring about an unprecedented amount of comfort.

Long term rivals Ciba Vision also have their own versions on the market. It provides a clearer and more wettable surface to give superb levels of comfort. It's so good, say the manufacturers, you'll hardly know it's there.

A third competitor comes in the shape of Biofinity which produces Aquaform - its version of silicon hydrogel technology. Such is the level of comfort that the company feels comfortable enough to recommend it for six months continuous wear.

Regardless of what lenses you are wearing, your eye sight is far too valuable to take chances with and getting a proper and timely prescription from your doctor is always a good idea. Whether using Acuvue Trueye or any of the products from its major competitors, then do your research and make sure the product is right for your needs.
