The aronia berry is popular with different names such as the Black Chokeberry, aronia melancarpa, choke berry, or aronia melanocarpa. Aronia berry looks like blueberry and is loaded with powerful antioxidants that are very advantageous to our health. The reason of these berries carrying good quantity of antioxidants is that they are dark pigmented very near to black. The content of antioxidants found in these berries is higher than other berries like blueberries, cranberries or even than pomegranates. Hence, aronia berry juice is gradually getting popular for its benefits.

Aronia berries were consumed by Native Americans as part of their daily food and also to make inks and dyes. Their health, food and culture used to revolve around these berries. They also used aronia for preserving meats and for medicinal purposes. However, with the spread of new culture across the continent, aronia lost its respect as a health fruit.

The new generation preferred sweet tasty juices of other fruits over aronia and due to this reason it was totally forgotten. Recently, when scientists discovered that aronia berry is quite rich in antioxidants and can be used for medical purposes, it has become the most favorite berry in the world of super foods.

These berries are very rich in quinic acid and proanthocyanins which if compared to cranberries is ten times stronger. Quinic acid helps in preventing urinary infection. Other than antioxidants, aronia berries also contain other nutritional components such as flavonols, vitamins and minerals (Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Vitamin B2 and Vitamin B6), anthocynanins, and polyphenols. According to a study done by University of Maryland, the antioxidants found in aronia berries may help in prevention of colon cancer.

Aronia berries are used in making various food items such as candies, pies, cookie fillings, jelly, sorbet, flavored milk, and yogurt. Aronia berry juice is quite tart in taste and if you want to consume in its fresh form, you have to add some sugar to it. With added sugar, it would taste like black berry or blue berry juice. The pure juice is dark purple in color.

People drink aronia berry juice for different health reasons. The antioxidant rich aronia berry juice can be helpful in controlling diabetes, curing cardiovascular ailments, inflammation, urinary tract infections, influenza, circulatory problems, high blood pressure, and even cancer. It also strengthens our memory, produces good cholesterol, aids digestion and also strengthens the body providing essential oils.

Aronia berries had lost their popularity for some years but now once again it is becoming the centre stage among those nutrient fruits that are getting popular in the world of health conscious people that are always in search of alternative health options and foods that can provide them with better health advantages.

With all the advantages that aronia can provide to our health, it is not surprising to see more and more people adopting aronia berry juice for the betterment of their health.
