One of the basic worries after a pregnancy would be getting back in shape. Some people might consider this frivolous after giving birth but this is a very valid worry. It is easy to get disheartened especially when faced with examples of different famous women looking fabulous just days following their delivery. However, the new mother should realize that realistic expectations would be one of the most important considerations when thinking about losing the excess weight after pregnancy. One should never compare with other new mothers and especially not with new mothers who happen to be celebrities. Remember that while losing weight following a pregnancy and getting back in shape would be a priority, it is not the most important one. The most important priority should instead be your health as well as the well being of the infant.

It is easy to put weight loss into perspective when you consider that a new mother would need plenty of strength and energy to deal with a baby. One cannot run around trying to care for a newborn if one does not have the strength for it. Furthermore, a restricted diet would mean that the child's nutrition suffers if the woman also happens to be in the breastfeeding stage. The delicate nature of pregnancy would also imply that the body has been under a lot of stress and would necessarily need time to recuperate. It would be of the utmost importance for the new mother to work out a diet and exercise plan only after consulting the doctor.

The doctor would be able to advise the woman about the advisability of taking up physical exercise and can recommend the limits which would help depending on the woman's state. Specific cases, such as a cesarean, might necessitate a longer period of rest before working out with a focus on the abdominal area. Furthermore, to ensure that the child's nutritional needs are met while breastfeeding, a women should give due consideration to her diet and how far she limits her food. One cannot go wrong with increasing nutritional choices which are lower in calories, such as vegetables. Another smart choice would be looking at varieties of fruits which can satisfy cravings, ease hunger and provide nutrition. One should take the opportunity to take it easy following a pregnancy and slowly work one's way to losing the extra weight and then focus on the figure one desires.
