Swine flu has become a scare worldwide as it has started to spread on different countries worldwide. What is so alarming with this disease is that, it has symptoms just like the common flu but it can be deadly. However, you can do something in avoiding swine flu.
As this disease can be deadly, it is important to be able avoid it as much as possible. Avoiding swine flu may not be that difficult as there are simple things that can help you avoid this disease.
Thoroughly washing your hands with soap and water or antibacterial cleansers will help a lot to avoid the spread of this flu virus with your hands. Proper washing should also be observed. It is also helpful to keep your hands off your face, your mouth or your nose to avoid spreading the virus.
If you are coughing or sneezing, do not use your hands to cover your mouth. Instead, sneeze on your elbows. This way, you will not get contaminants on your mouth and you will not also introduce the virus with your hands.
It always helps to use alcohol or hand sanitizer on your hands after washing them. These will help you avoid spreading the flu infection with the things you touch. You might want to avoid handshaking for now and you may want also to avoid kissing or greeting cheek to cheek to avoid spreading of the flu virus. Avoiding swine flu may mean breaking some of this habits for now to keep you safe from the infection.
If you can avoid going out then avoid it especially if there have been cases of swine flu in your community or in your area. If you can't avoid going out, then you have to, at least, avoid the crowded places. If at work you need to be in crowded places, you can also opt to wear a surgical mask to filter respiratory infections and away from your mouth and nose. You may want also to be cautious in touching things in public such as door handles, restroom facilities and even pens that have been used by lots of people.
It is also important to watch out eating in public restaurants as eating utensils may be carrying the virus from an infected person and can spread from one person to another, thus, minimize eating in public at these times.
It is also safer to limit your travels and cancel your vacation plans to other countries or countries with known swine flu infection. Even if you are heading for a country free of the virus, you may never know that one of the passengers aboard may be infected. To avoid this, wear your mask, or just cancel your trips if you can.
You can also get vaccination against the swine flu virus and feel confident about going out without having to think about possible virus infection of this deadly disease. This is especially a good option in avoiding swine flu in pregnant women and in children, who are most prone to this infection.
