One of the toughest questions most people who have excessive weight ask is how to lose weight. It seems impossible for many people but it is not a complicated process. The truth is the best way how to lose weight is to burn calories that you take in. A person should burn three thousand five hundred calories to be able to get rid of one pound of body fat. You can burn fat by exercising or decreasing your intake of calories.

1. The first step on how to lose weight is calculating your basal metabolic rate. The basal metabolic rate is the metabolism rate that the body should get so it can function well. The basal metabolic rate is the amount of calories we need to get everyday.

2. The second step on how to lose weight is calculating your level of workouts or exercises you plan to do. You can utilize an online calorie counter to know the number of calories you get to burn when you are do the exercises or other activities. You can know how much calories you lose when you lift weights when you use the calorie counter. It is also wise to have a diary or a journal where you put your daily activities like the exercises you do everyday. Another good thing to do is to regularly monitor the rate of your heart which also tells you if you are burning calories.

3. The third step on how to lose weight is keeping track of the food you eat. You can list down the usual foods you eat and try to research the number of calories it gives. You can research for the calories of foods using the online calorie counters. Include the foods you would like to order in your favorite restaurants too so you can make wise choices when you order.

4. The fourth step on how to lose weight is to add up your BMR with the calories you lose from your activities and subtracting it to the total number of calories from your food intake.

5. The fifth important step you must do is exercising at least two hundred fifty minutes every week or at least one hour for five days. For beginners it is ideal to start with exercises lasting thirty minutes for five days. Simple activities like taking a flight of stairs, walking and doing house chores also burn many calories.
