Smiling is a symbolic action and the meaning of a smile spans many cultures. Most of us smile every day because something has made us happy.
Many people have never thought about why it would be logical to smile, even when we may not be happy. Smiling has many benefits that may be a little more obscure than the most obvious reasons to smile.
First, smiling makes us attractive. Smiling makes us more approachable and makes us more likable.
It is pretty obvious that when someone is frowning, scowling or grimacing they become much more unapproachable. It has also been proven that smiles will draw people in.
When you are not feeling happy, try smiling. Any time that you do not feel like smiling you should force yourself to smile.
Smiling may help you change your mood. Some believe that smiling tricks the body into being in a better mood. Smiling is contagious as well. You can change the mood of others by smiling.
Smiling can also be a stress reliever. If you take the time to think about the things that you are grateful for in your life and smile about them you will be able to put your stress in perspective.
Your immune system also receives benefit from turning the corner of your lips in an upward direction. Smiling actually relaxes your body which may be the reason that your immune system receives a boost.
Lowering blood pressure is also a benefit of this gesture. If you take a reading of your blood pressure sitting still and then you take another reading of you blood pressure sitting still and smiling you will see that there is a difference in the numbers that you get.
Some have coined smiling to be a natural drug. This statement is scientifically correct.
When you smile you release endorphins, natural pain killers and even serotonin into your blood flow. This combination makes us feel good.
When you are lacking confidence, a great way to boost your confidence is to smile. When someone looks happy and satisfied they are much more likely to be taken as confident and successful.
When you are working with clients or customers make sure that you look happy. Your message will be taken more readily and you will come across as more trustworthy than someone that is not smiling.
If you are a positive and upbeat person more people will want to associate with and spend time with you. Working to keep a positive attitude will improve your quality of life.
This gesture is a very important part of our everyday lives. Because of this, we need to make sure to take care of our mouth. First, do not smoke. Smoking is a very easy way to abuse your mouth.
You will be doing damage to your teeth, your tongue and even your throat. Smoking will also age the skin around your mouth prematurely.
Obviously the best way to take care of your smile is to have good oral hygiene. Brushing your teeth twice a day and flossing once a day are mandatory to having healthy teeth.
If you are not brushing and flossing your gums may start to recede. This can be very painful and can also change the appearance of your smile.
Do not forget that your teeth are only for eating. You should not be using your teeth for tearing open bags or opening cans and bottles.
You can do serious damage to a tooth by using it for something other than eating. From chipping a tooth to completely breaking a tooth, the damage that can occur is not worth using your tooth. You could also kill your tooth.
Many people are unaware of this consequence. When your tooth incurs a force that hurts it, it may die. That means that the blood and nutrients may stop flowing to that particular tooth.
The tooth will then begin to fade to a darker color of gray. Your tooth will be a different color than the rest of your teeth and may distract from your smile.
To avoid other discolorations you will also want to stay away from eating or drinking foods that can stain your teeth. Red wine, soda and coffee can all dull your teeth.
If you must eat or drink a substance that may stain your teeth, make sure to brush immediately afterwards.
We all know that smiling is a sign of happiness. Take care of this precious gesture so that you can smile with confidence for the rest of your life!
