Do You Need Exercise to Lose Weight?

If you are a person that has lost weight and kept it off, it is no secret that part of maintaining that weight loss is attributed to exercise. And if you talk to a person that lost a lot of weight and regained it, they will tell you the first thing that changed in their lives was the amount of exercise that they were doing weekly. Exercise is crucial to both losing weight and maintaining that weight loss. There are people that lose weight just by adding exercise to their weekly schedule without making any changes to their diet.

There are basically 3 types of exercise and you should be doing all of them. They are aerobic exercise, which is the type of exercise that increases your heart rate and keeps it healthy. Strength training is exercise that makes your muscles strong. This is done with free weights, resistance bands or weight machines. This builds lean muscle, which will allow you to burn calories while at rest by increasing your metabolism. Stretching keeps your muscles limber; helps you avoid injury and makes you feel good.

Your options for exercise are limitless. You can dance, walk, ride a bike, swim or take a class. You can stand in front of the TV and follow along with an instructor. What type of activity you choose is not all that important. What is important is that you make the choice to do something. You will find that people that lead balanced and financially stable lives also participate in regular exercise programs.

In recent years, the way we exercise has become very versatile. There are things you can do at home and even at work that can keep you healthy and moving. You do not have to be excessive about exercise, but everyone should be able to find a few 15 minute blocks of time in their day to devote to exercise. If you think you can't, you might want to take a look at your schedule and see how you can modify it. Most of us have more time than we realize, we just need to rearrange our schedules and prioritize things a little differently.

People that have maintained a weight loss make time in their weekly schedule to exercise and so can you. Your health should be a priority to you and without it you cannot effectively be able to give to your family, your employer or anyone else. Make it your goal to do what it takes to live a healthy life!
