Everyone has faced different kinds of problems with their skin, from freckles to warts to pimples and so on. There are different factors which would ultimately contribute to skin problems such as these and they can range from genetics to the kinds of soaps and skin care products we use, to sun exposure. There is no foolproof way to keep out all the variations of skin problems but there are steps to take to ensure minimal skin problems.

To distinguish between freckles and moles, one needs to understand that the basic similarity between the two is the increased skin pigmentation. That is, in both cases, the term refers to portions of our skin where we would find increased melanin. At the same time, the terms mole and freckle cannot be used interchangeably as there are basic differences as well. Let us first look at freckles, which are pigmented spots which would appear flat and are rather small in size. These are not congenital skin problems but are seen to crop up on account of time spent in the sun. You would notice them as reddish or brownish spots which would show up on the skin surface of the body which is naturally exposed to the sun. Common spots include the nose area as well as one's shoulders. While freckles themselves are not really what lead to skin cancer, there is a link where those with lighter tones of skin develop more freckles. At the same time skin cancer is more likely in cases where there is lighter skin tone present.

Moles on the other hand could be dark brown in most cases although different colors are possible. Secondly, although small sizes of moles are common the dimensions could also vary. Besides flat clusters of pigmented cells, one could also find moles that are raised. These are not limited to sun exposed skin areas although you will find the moles darkening on account of such exposure. Hormonal changes could also lead to such darkening with moles and there is the fact that these could be found right from birth. Even here, cancer is a possibility although it is not so common.

One finds different measures to take care of both and these include the use of creams and topical applications. Home remedies for moles include the use of castor oil and garlic. When taking care of freckles, avoid the use of applications containing over 4 percent hydroquinone as this could be linked to skin cancer. Sun protection is also imperative and there are different good sun blocks that one could avail of.
