Ultrasonic assisted liposuction (UAL) is a cosmetic surgery procedure that is different from the more traditional form of this surgery. High-pitched sound waves are used to turn fat into liquid form in order to make it easier to remove from the body.

It is most often used for stubborn areas that are difficult to treat such as the cheeks, chin, neck, knees, calves and the ankles. Sometimes UAL is used on its own but other times it is used as an addition to the tumescent liposuction procedure for those patients who need a greater degree of body contouring.

What the sound waves do is to melt away the fat. When tumescent fluid is injected into the body and added to the equation the liquid fat then goes through an emulsifying process which makes the elimination of fat that much easier for the surgeon to perform.

The very first step in the ultrasonic liposuction procedure is for tumescent fluid to be injected into the surgical site. The fluid is composed of salt water solution, anesthetic and epinephrine. The purpose of this fluid is to keep the area well hydrated and to prevent too much fluid loss from the body. Another purpose as previously mentioned is to make it simpler for the fatty deposits to be taken away.

During the cosmetic surgery sound waves are produced by a generator and introduced to the area where the fat is located. These waves are of an ultrasonic nature. The transmission of such goes through a cannula which is a thin tube that is similar to a vacuum. When the cannula reaches the fat cells it reduces them to liquid and then they can effectively be vacuumed out.

When it comes to the removal of fat, ultrasonic assisted liposuction has some benefits. It is able to treat areas of the body that have fat deposits that are quite dense. It is also capable of removing large quantities of fat at once. That means that the patient would not require more than one procedure but one would be enough.

Another good point is that this modern type of cosmetic surgery helps to tighten the skin and improve its appearance afterwards. UAL is a fine tuning type of cosmetic operation that can be an excellent alternative to having a body lift or a tummy tuck. It is less invasive than either one of these procedures and it has a faster recuperation period. If you wish to get rid of baggy skin from your body then this procedure is worth finding out more about.
