We are all constantly being told about the importance of keeping clean. Whether you are reading the morning newspaper, sitting on the tube on your morning commute, browsing the internet or watching television, cleaning companies seem to follow us around shout at us that there are germs all around and we need to purchase their latest product which kills 99.9% or some nominal value of germs and will help to keep us safe. But are these industrial cleaning products really all they are made out to be or are we living behind some propaganda smokescreen?
There is doubt that there is a problem with germs and illness around the world today. To see proof of that you just need to turn the television on and you will see a number of germs popping up all over the place like MRSA or e-coli. However, the question still exists, where did these germs emerge from and what role did industrial cleaning products play in their birth?
Germs are basically living organisms and they also have the basic and most fundamental instinct which is to survive when threatened. A human body has a natural inbuilt function to fight off germs and germs have a similar resistance to when something threatens them. So has producing stronger and stronger industrial cleaning products actually helped to breed the superbugs of today? Well that is up for debate, there is nothing to say that there is any link between stronger industrial cleaning products and the superbugs of today, but you would assume that some germs have evolved into stronger forms.
Another argument that some people argue is whether killing off so many germs has actually caused our own internal immune systems to weaken? There are a number of drink products on the market today that claim to give our bodies a few friend bacteria, which helps to strengthen our immune system. Now clearly we didn't need these friendly bacteria back in the 1980's, so the argument remains why do we need them today? Maybe making our lives clean and dirt free has taken away the germs that were helping to keep our immune systems in balance.
Obviously we do need industrial cleaning products to protect us from the germs that exist in the world today, but just like when we consider our food requirements we should do everything in moderation. Blitzing everything with cleaning products may actually be doing us more harm than good.
