Every one is aware that certain foods can increase their chances of having a cardiovascular disease, however, we refuse to change our eating habits for the reason that it's not easy and sometimes we just don't want to change it since we think we are still young and the food that we regularly eat is just too delicious to give up. However, the rate of cardiovascular disease is really on its rise these days that proper diet should be followed. Having a Cardiovascular Diet does not mean that you can no longer eat junk food; you just need to limit them.

First step of the day for your Cardiovascular Diet is to limit unhealthy fats and cholesterol. To lower down your level of blood cholesterol thus lowering the risk of coronary artery disease, you should limit your intake of food which is high in saturated and trans fat. Having high level of blood cholesterol increases your chances of heart attack and stroke since this will lead to a buildup of plaques in your arteries.

To reduce your intake of saturated and trans fat, you need to avoid eating foods that are high in solid fats such as butter, margarine, and shortening. These are usually added on to your food upon cooking or serving. Trimming off your meat or choosing lean meats can also help reducing the amount of saturated fat in your diet.

Second step for your healthy heart diet is to choose low-fat protein sources. Examples of the best protein sources you can buy in the grocery store include lean meat, poultry and fish, egg whites, and low-fat dairy products. To cut down the fat much further, choose lower fat options. For example, instead of buying fried chicken patties, select skinless chicken breasts instead or choose skim milk over whole milk.

To replace high fat meats, you can use fish instead. Certain types of fish like the salmon, herring and mackerel are high in omega-3 fatty acids which can help in lowering the level of your blood fat called the triglycerides. Other good substitutes for meat are legumes which are high in protein but low in fat.

Third step in your diet is to eat more vegetables and fruits. There are certain substances found in plants that are also found in vegetables and fruits that may help prevent heart disease. They are good sources of vitamins and minerals and they are rich in dietary fiber but low in calories.

Fourth step is to select whole grains which are good sources of nutrients, fiber, and other substances that play a major role in regulating your blood pressure.

Last step in your Cardiovascular Diet is to reduce the amount of salt in your food. Although you can reduce the amount of salt in your food while cooking it, take note that large amounts of salt is contained in canned and processed foods. In other words, avoid these types of food as well to achieve your goal of having a healthy heart. Follow these simple steps and you will surely make your heart healthier and happier.
