The health service in the United Kingdom has been a two tiered system since the early 90's, when a number of private hospitals and health centres emerged providing people with services for the public at a small cost aiming to eliminate the need for people to wait in the National Health Service waiting lists.

There is always a large debate about the usage of private hospitals when there is a National Health structure in place, but if there was no requirement for these private hospitals then they wouldn't exist. It has also help to generate a large amount of business for the insurance companies around the country that now offer individuals and companies healthcare packages that enables them to take advantage of utilising the private hospital facilities.

There are a number of individuals who will say that it is unfair to have a two tiered healthcare system, especially when they don't have access to one of these sectors. The fact is that we are actually extremely lucky to have a health care service for free at all in this country, there are a number of countries around the world that would give anything for a health service that provides health care services free of charge. For instance in the United States of America they have had for years a private health service sector and every piece of treatment that an individual has needs to be paid for. It is only recently that President Barrack Obama has been trying to force through a new initiative that will allow everyone man, woman and child in the world's largest economy to receive free healthcare.

There are certainly times when people have had to wait for treatment through the National Health Service, but when you consider that the NHS is struggling against the constant restrictions placed upon it from the country's government, they really are doing a stunning job. If people are not happy with the service that is being supplied by the National Health Service then it is their responsibility to make a change and get a healthcare plan.

Complaining about a service that is provided free of charge is appalling. Some individuals attempt to claim that they are paying for it through their taxes, but that is in effect untrue as everyone receives treatment whether they are working and paying taxes or not. Another factor to consider is that most companies offer a private healthcare scheme to their employees these days. So if you feel that the NHS isn't coming up to scratch, then why not get a healthcare plan and sample private hospital healthcare in 2010.
