There are a lot of reasons that our country is currently experiencing a health care crisis. Health care is getting more and more expensive all the time and there are many people who are unable to get or cannot afford to get any type of health care insurance. This article will discuss the current system and how it works as well as some of the proposed solutions from a theoretical standpoint.
One of the biggest problems with the current is its increasing and seemingly ever increasing costs. There are two major parts of this problem the first is that medical science has advanced more in the past two decades than it has possibly in the history of medicine.
There are literally hundreds of companies who are doing nothing but using existing technologies and applying it to the medical field. While this is good as it is increasing the capabilities of medical science it also means that there are a lot of people out there who could benefit from the technology but who cannot afford to pay the developing companies for the development.
Another problem is that there is virtually no competition in the medical field. Most people never even see the full bill of what their services are costing the insurance companies and a better observation is that they have no real reason to care.
The only thing that the average person is required to pay is co-pay which amount is determined not based on the total cost of services but as an amount meant to discourage spurious visits to the doctor's office. One solution that has been presented is to tear down this veil through use of insurance programs like health savings accounts and other tax advantaged insurance programs.
One of the more liberal ideas for dealing with the problem is to socialize the health care system. Under this system the government would take control of virtually all hospitals in the nation and would be in charge of administering the health care system.
All services would be basically free of charge under this type of system and the government would obtain the financing for this health care system by increasing tax rates especially those of the upper middle and all other more wealthy classes. Obviously overturning the current health care system is going to be near impossible and so this is more of a concept than a possible reality.
