Resveratrol is a molecule that is gaining more and more popularity these days. This supplement has been monitored by the public as well as medical and scientific communities for many years due to its number of beneficial effects such as tumor arrest, heart health, and properties of antioxidants. However, there are still some members of the community questioning whether or not Resveratrol side effects are positive.
Resveratrol is usually found in peanuts, many different plants, Japanese knotweed, dark skinned fruits such as blueberries, pomegranates, and cranberries. It is also found in grapes supplementing the red wine with health benefits. Today manufacturers have developed a supplement based on Resveratrol with varying strengths and doses. Long term side-effects on humans have not been known yet however, many scientist and users have accounted for its positive side effects. But still, there are points that should be noted for potential users based on the known effects of the supplement.
One thing that has been known about this supplement is that it has mild estrogenic activity therefore it is recommended that women who have estrogenic-sensitivity would need to consult with their medical practitioner before taking this supplement to avoid any possible negative side effect. To also avoid possible anti-growth effects, the supplement should not be used by children and women who are pregnant, nursing, or trying to conceive. One of the reasons Resveratrol is deemed heart-healthy is the fact that it acts as a blood thinner, therefore, it should not be used as a supplement by people who are already on blood thinning medication to avoid any adverse effects unless recommended by their physician. In other words, it is always best to consult your doctor first whether or not you belong to the same category as what was mentioned on top.
There are reportedly negative side effects shown by volunteer participants. These participants who are taking around 500 to 1000 milligrams of Resveratrol experienced over thinning of the blood, abnormal results in their blood tests, headaches and anxiety. It is recommended then in general, that dose should be dependent on your body weight and current health status and should be started moderately at around 20 to 50 milligrams first and increased gradually. Though these negative side effects are reversible, it should not be taken lightly.
On the other hand, many users report that what they have experienced with the supplement are all positive side effects. They say that Resveratrol provide them with higher and more prolonged energy and endurance, better sleeping habits, and better mental clarity.
With these contradicting observations, more and more studies are being done these days with the purpose of determining advantages and disadvantages of taking the supplement. So far, it seems that the potential benefits are greater than the risks.
