Are you suffering from ringing in the ears? Many folks struggle trying to figure out how to stop ringing ears. Ringing in the ears can disrupt your day to day life, interfer with sleep, affect your hearing, and it can make it hard to work.

Tinnitus affects everyone differently. Sometimes ringing happens in only one ear, although it is more common in both ears. For some sufferers ear ringing is temporary, the ringing happens for a few days, and then it will stop as suddenly as it started. However, Tinnitus can last for a very long time especially if the microscopic ending of the hearing nerve in the inner ear has been damaged.

To prevent damage to the ear avoid loud music or noise. Also, ringing in the ear can be caused by allergies, high blood pressure, ear infection, diabetes, some prescription drugs, and other things. Once you are able to determine the cause of your ear ringing you can try a few things to cope with or eliminate it.

If medication is the cause talk to your doctor about changing doses or medication. Your health or diet can affect your hearing. Too much salt in your diet can impair circulation of blood in the head and neck. Stimulants like coffee, tea, and cola can irritate hearing cells. High blood pressure can cause ringing in the ears.

How to stop ringing ears varies, some people find taking 2 standardized Ginkgo extract tablets 3 times a day with meals to be effective after a few weeks. Some sufferers benefit from using a technique called head drumming; you place your palms over the ears with you fingers on the back of your head then place the index fingers over the middle fingers, and snap them off to tap the back of the skull, this is repeated 30 to 40 times or until ringing stops.

American Academy of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery - suggest self-help such as lowering salt intake, getting proper rest and exercise, loosing weight to lower blood pressure, breathing exercises, and relaxation techniques as ways to stop or cope with the ringing. There is no single remedy for how to stop ringing ears, but there are many things one can try until they find what works for them. Always consult with a professional if you are suffering too long or too much.
