A womans uterus is usually lined with a tissue that is called the endometrium. In some cases, this tissue actually moves around and implants itself somewhere else in the pelvis. This endometrial tissue is supposed to be found in one of 3 areas: The ovaries, fallopian tubes or anywhere lining the pelvis.

When PMS occurs this endometrium becomes thicker so that it can be ready to conceive a baby. Hormones in the blood encourage this to happen. If a baby is not conceived then the hormones in the blood become lower and the endometrium detaches from the uterus wall. It is then shed through the vagina in the process of menstruation.

Women who are experiencing endometriosis experience the same process with the exception of this extra tissue reacting the same way to the hormones in the blood. This misplaced tissue all breaks down the same way but becomes trapped in the body because it is unable to make it's exit through the vagina. This is very problematic and can lead to pain and inflammation. If left unchecked, it can also lead to both cysts and scar tissue.

Women with endometriosis usually experience excessive pain during their monthly cycle. This pain can be very intense and is much worse than most women experience during PMS. Another thing that it can cause is excessive bleeding during your period, pain during sex and while having bowel movements. Even worse, this condition can lessen your chances of becoming pregnant. Some women who have endometriosis have no symptoms or complications, at all. It really depends on body chemistry and where the endometrium is misplaced at.

This medical condition is much more common than you might think. Nearly one out of every ten women suffer from it. Women who have not had children are more likely to have endometriosis.

The exact cause of endometriosis has not been discovered. It is widely believed that what happens is that trace amounts of menstrual blood does not escape the vagina, but ends up traveling backward and ending up in the pelvis. The cells that are left behind then basically work like seeds and new endometrial tissue is created in areas that it is not supposed to be in.

Homeopathic medicine has been found to be extremely effective at treating the root cause of endometriosis. The following herbs should be used for several months to achieve the best results: Chasteberry, Milk Thistle and Don Quai. Milk Thistles function is to support the liver. The other two herbs are great at keeping the hormones in balance. Using these herbs can be advantageous over conventional medicine because they do not just work to cover up the symptoms but can make it disappear, altogether.
