Aviophobia is a phobia where the victim has an extreme fear of flying. Everything in the world is becoming more closely connected through internet, phone and air travel. This makes everything worse because the need to travel more, especially in circumstances such as a job, becomes more necessary than ever. It can make it difficult to immigrate to other areas and see parts of the world that interest a person, as well.

It can be normal for a person to have a little bit of anxiety before flying on an airplane, but those who are suffering with aviophobia deal with strong symptoms of anxiety and stress which can impair their ability to function normally. Millions of people around the world suffer from a fear of flying. There are ways to treat this problem and I will touch on some of them.

First of all lets discuss what some of the symptoms are. A person who is suffering with aviophobia are likely to: feel nausea, shake, tremble, vomit, feel motion sickness, have an increased heart rate, sweat profusely, breathe heavily, sweat and have tension in their muscles.

If your symptoms are extreme and include several of what I just listed then you should make an appointment with a psychologist. You will be asked to discuss when the symptoms started, how it started and how severe the symptoms are. They will give you some advice on how to prepare your mind for a flight.

It is common for aviophobia to occur alongside other psychological disorders. The psychologist will want to rule out other problems such as drug abuse, anxiety and depression.

Many different things can cause a person to develop a fear of flying. It depends on the person and their circumstances, for the most part. Examples of what could lead to this condition is a person losing a family member in a plane crash or severe mid-air turbulence.

All of the news about plane crashes on TV can make it really hard to overcome aviophobia. So, you might want to avoid the news. After the 9/11 terror strikes many people developed a fear of flying.

Certain herbs can help to calm you down before a flight. St. John's Wort, Valerian, Passiflora Incarnata and Scullcap are all good at helping you relax and calming you down. You do not need to use all of these at once but it is a good idea to experiment with them in order to see which one works best for you.

Relaxation techniques, such as meditation or yoga, can also help you to develop essential skills of relaxation. Teach yourself how to control your breathing and you are one step closer to being able to master your situation on airplanes.
