Cardiomyopathy is a dangerous disease that occurs in the heart. It causes damage to the heart by either weakening it or changing it's structure. There are many different types of cardiomyopathy but all of them can cause serious problems to your health. They make it hard for the heart to continue pumping blood through your body as it is meant to.
The symptoms of cardiomyopathy show up, one by one, as the disease progresses through the body. These symptoms can be alarming since they are generally the same as those that occur with congestive heart failure. Symptoms you should be on the lookout for are: Trouble maintaining focus, appetite loss, fainting spells, trouble catching breath, chest pain, swollen ankles and legs, heart palpitations and feeling dizzy.
If you or a family member come across any of these symptoms then it is extremely important to get to a doctor as soon as possible. This condition is very serious and can lead to heart failure or an arrhythmia. Pinpointing whether you are dealing with cardiomyopathy, or not, will be very easy for your doctor to discover with a battery of tests.
If you are found to have cardiomyopathy then you will receive a detailed treatment plan. The doctor might prescribe a medication to help support your heart, surgery or a pacemaker. In extreme cases a heart transplant is often required.
Doctors have not pinpointed a root cause for cardiomyopathy but there are a whole group of medical conditions that seem to be associated with it: Arrythmias, viral infections, diabetes, excessive use of alcohol, thyroid problems, certain types of medication, pre-existing damage to the heart, poor diet, high blood pressure and kidney disease. Cardiomyopathy can occur due to poor genes. It also has a tendency to pop up as people grow older and during pregnancy.
You will not be able to depend on home treatment for cardiomyopathy. If you plan to use some herbal supplements then they should be in conjunction with a carefully followed plan that has been provided by the doctor. Make sure you let the doctor know which herbs you plan to use so that you can both be on the same page. Hawthorn, Ginkgo biloba, Passiflora incarnate and Viburnum opulus are all very good for your heart and have both helped to prevent heart trouble and assist in recovery of existing heart conditions. Not only do they support the heart but they help you to manage your stress, blood pressure and muscle convulsions. Make sure that you choose what you eat carefully and not deviate from the doctors orders.
