Brushing your teeth is something that you have probably been told to do since you were very young. There have been many different programs that have been instilled to teach children how they should brush their teeth.

When you were taught to brush your teeth you may have been very young. It is easy to begin to slack on your brushing techniques.

Brushing is the easiest way to practice preventative medicine. If you brush your teeth properly you may avoid many different oral problems.

First, you should floss your teeth twice a day. You should not be brushing more than twice a day.

These two different brush times should come in the morning and in the evening. The times at which you brush your teeth are also important.

When you sleep at night your mouth becomes much drier than it is during the day. The dry environment enables the bacteria in your mouth to multiply.

The plaque that builds up during the night can also be removed by brushing in the morning. Some people choose to brush their teeth after they eat breakfast while other people take the time to brush their teeth first thing in the morning.

There is not a big difference between the different times in the morning. It is just important that you take the time to brush in the morning.

The other time that you should brush your teeth is every night before you go to bed. During the day there will be plaque, food particles and even bacteria that build up.

You do not want your teeth to sit in the build up all night while you sleep. By removing the debris from your teeth before you go to sleep will be protecting your teeth from decay.

There are some people that feel that they should be brushing their teeth more than twice a day. If you want to brush your teeth after every meal it is definitely beneficial.

You should never be brushing your teeth more than three times a day. You can brush your teeth in the morning, afternoon and evening but no more than that.

Although it seems that if you are brushing your teeth more than three times a day they will be healthier. If you over brush your teeth your gums will begin to suffer.

Brushing your teeth lightly is also very important. Although you know that there is buildup on your teeth and you will want to get it off you have to realize that brushing your teeth with great force will not remove more debris.

Your gums may even start to recede if you are brushing them too roughly. If you feel that you may be using excessive force on your teeth while you are brushing you can try to hold your toothbrush like a pen.

If you hold your toothbrush like a pen you may be able to feel the difference. There are not a lot of people that will brush more lightly if they hold their tooth brush this way.

Brushing your teeth for more than two minutes will be a waste of your time. You should always make sure that you are always brushing your teeth for at least two minutes.

Many people have to set a timer when they brush their teeth. Two minutes can feel a lot longer than it sounds.

It is commonly accepted that you should spend thirty seconds in each of the four quadrants. The four quadrants of the mouth are the top left, top right, bottom left and bottom right.

It may also be beneficial to take the time to make a routine in your brushing. If you find a routine that cleans all of the different parts of your teeth you should stick with that form of cleaning.

Another very important aspect to brushing your teeth that many people forget is to change out your toothbrush regularly. The bristles on your old toothbrush will not be able to adequately clean your teeth if they start to flare.

The bristles on your toothbrush should also be soft. This softness will not inhibit your ability to clean your teeth but will make the cleaning more beneficial for your teeth and for your gums.

The American Dental Association inspects toothbrushes and gives the ones that it approves of a seal of approval. When you are shopping for a toothbrush you should look for the seal.

Brushing your teeth is something that you may have been doing for a long time. With some minor tweaks and changes you may be able to improve your oral hygiene.
