You might not identify with the name carbonated water initially but will know it better as sparkling water, soda or seltzer water and is characterized by carbon dioxide gas that is added in water. It is actually as good as normal water except that it has bubbles in it. This can also be prepared at home with the help of soda chargers and seltzer bottles that are available in the market.

Most of us have a heavy intake of this water especially if you are a person who has a lot of soft drinks. Too much of anything is not good for the body and therefore, it has no exception. But what exactly are the effects of this water on your health. There are many myths and facts about it which need to be clarified in the first place. Where there are a number of disadvantages of consuming carbonated water that people list, it is not said to have any ill effects on your body and is equal to consumption of normal water. In fact it is believed by many that drinking it is better than drinking regular water.

However, some others believe that it can have terrible effects especially on your bones and teeth. The skeletal structure is a vital feature of your body as it is one of the determinants of your strength and the amount of work you can do. It is thus essential that we have strong and healthy bones so we are physically fit. Your bones constitute of calcium and a deficiency in the same can cause osteoporosis or bone fractures relatively easily. Carbonated water contains phosphates which are the ingredients said to cause your bones to lose the calcium in your body, weakening your bones to a considerable amount and causing serious other health conditions as well. It is also known to cause your teeth to decay and possesses the ability to dissolve your teeth a hundred times faster as compared to normal sparkling water. However, the rate at which it damages the teeth is very low so an intake of carbonated water should not be very harmful. Soft drinks should be avoided because they are carbonated as they generally contain a number of chemicals and sweeteners that are harmful to the body. It is said that too much of carbonated water in the body can also lead to formation of kidney stones. In case of any doubts, it is best you consult a specialist.
