For entrepreneurs looking for business startup ideas, a good option is to try out a low-cost business on the weekends. It's a risk-free way to get your feet wet in the world of business ownership. One area that is particularly well-suited to weekend businesses is housework. If you typically use your weekends to organize, clean, and/or decorate why not get paid for something you're already doing? Two business ideas that are prime right now are holistic housecleaning and home staging.

As more and more people discover they have allergies to harsh chemicals or simply desire to lead healthy lifestyles, they turn to holistic housecleaning. Your business could offer a once-a-week cleaning service that uses only natural, non-toxic, and biodegradable products. You can find these types of cleaners at natural food stores and even larger grocery chains that are incorporating natural or environmentally-friendly sections in their stores.

Because these supplies will cost more than normal cleaners, you can charge a higher cleaning fee. Another option is to make your own products with natural disinfectants like vinegar and baking soda. Green living is a hot trend right now--one you should be able to tap into without much difficulty.

With the suffering economy, it's harder for people to sell their homes. Houses that have been tastefully decorated, however, are more likely to sell quickly and at a higher price, since the potential buyers can visualize themselves living there. The practice of decorating a house for sale is called staging. If you have a knack for decorating your home and eliminating clutter--and especially if you have a background in interior design--you might be able to start a successful staging business. You do need to own or rent the furniture you use and pay for the cost to transport them from house to house.

To find clients, you can stop by houses that are being sold by their owners or work with real estate agencies. You can charge a flat fee for your services or ask for a percentage of the price the home sells for. Staging is becoming more and more common in this sluggish housing market, so now is a good time to jump on board.

These are just two ideas to get you thinking. Use what skills you have--the things you do on a daily or weekly basis--and figure out how you can take advantage of current popular and economic trends to start your own business on the weekends. It may just grow into a weekday one.
