When he said that survival is for the fittest, Darwin must have been thinking about animals in the food chain. He must have been thinking of predators and top-of-the-food-chain animal types. But if he had been a body builder, one who is passionate about muscle accumulation, he could have said something very different to pass the same message.

He would for instance have said that survival in the gym is for the strong willed and the persevering. This is because body building requires an individual to overcome the battle of pain versus pleasure attitude and be ready to face pain with a smile, anticipation and endurance. Pleasure seekers in the gym last only for a season. The survivors are only those who chase after intensity no matter how hard the workout eventually becomes. Survivors are those who are meticulous about dieting, those that keep a consistent schedule to the weight room, those that venture out to amplified intensity every time the body develops some new muscle mass and strength, those that like when the muscles are sore from workouts, those who delight in operating at their maximal stimulation edge, those who don't whine about the demands of an intense training workout.

Alternatively, he would have said that survival is for those who are willing to fully meet the cost of self advancement. Had he known that most people adore body building and its benefits, but loath the process of gaining those benefits, then Darwin would have phrased his message differently. He would have for instance said that survival is for the tolerant. Sustained hard work in the gym is the only and safest means of developing a muscled and defined physique. Body building achievements accrue from a resolute decision to overcome weakness, to pay the bill of packing the muscles on, to foot the cost of training fully, to sacrifice on the diet and time demands of a body building program and to tolerate the demands of a body building lifestyle.

Consistence and endurance puts an individual at the very top of a body building food chain. It amplifies the ability to sail through the gym successfully. Dieting and workouts demand that an individual be fully committed to meeting the cost of body building gains with personal commitment and determination. This is what assures an individual of success. The one who is found lacking in any of these qualities, he or she is swallowed in the ever increasing pit of body building failure.

The halls of fame, the amphitheater of champions, the arrays of trophies and the home of personal pride in achievements in the body building industry, only belongs to a special bleed of people. They are the fittest and the best of their king anywhere in the world. These are people who know what it is to pursue a goal and commit to it with their lives. These are individuals who know what it is to overcome a million and one challenges and stand tall even after the worst barriers to progress is erected right in front of their nose. These are men and women who are strong enough to resist the temptation of shortcuts and miracle solutions.
