Uniforms - They are more important than you might think. Most uniforms that people have to wear have a purpose behind them. By that I mean they are designed and constructed from the materials in a specific way to assist the individual with their job. That is particularly true when it comes to the construction of nurses tunics.

Nursing is a particularly difficult and tough industry to work within and nurses are rarely given credit for the amount of work that they put in. The individuals who work on the wards can be forced to deal with life and death on a daily basis and they learn to cherish the good, quiet times knowing only too well that at any moment things can turn around and become hectic.

It can be a really dirty and messy industry to work within and because of this the nurses tunics have to be extremely robust to stand up to the wear and tear that they face on a daily basis. A nurse's work is hard and varied, one minute they could be given prescription drugs to one patient then next they could be changing the bed sheets on one of the wards beds. Because of this the nurses tunics need to be extremely robust and tough wearing. The National Health Service can't afford to keep spending money on new uniforms for their employees, so the material utilised needs to be long lasting and durable.

Cleanliness is important around the hospital, especially with the amount of bacteria's that are apparently floating around like MRSA and Escherichia coli, it is vital that the nurses tunics show any dirty that the individual may have picked up through the course of the day. The last thing you want to happen is for the carers to start spreading and breeding the bacteria and germs around the hospital.

One problem that a lot of nurses face on a daily basis is cleanliness. Generally at some stage in the day they may come across a patient who might be leaking some fluids, whether that is bodily or liquid medicine. Obviously the uniform needs to be repellent to the fluid so that no germs can be stored within the garment. At the same time it is important that any fluids that may have been spilt show up on the garment so the nurse can quickly assess the situation and change before dealing with the next patient.

Nurses tunics need to be extremely versatile and their uniforms certainly serve the purpose that they were designed to fulfil.
